Slow Food MarketPosted: November 22, 2009
Right now, I’m probably on a plane to Spain (mainly in the rain), but I wanted to talk a little bit about this great market we went to on Saturday for lunch. It was right near Waterloo Station / South Bank, and even though it was raining most of the day, the weather cleared up just enough for us to enjoy this outdoor market for a couple of hours.
It was the slow food market, which descends on the South Bank once each month for a weekend.
In addition to fruit and veg stalls, it was mostly prepared food to take with you and enjoy on the chilly November afternoon. I squealed with delight when I found an old favorite!
Hooray for the veggie table! We enjoyed our veggie burgers with lentils and hummus while standing around and people-watching. Yummmm. Phil wandered around taking photos, like this one (he loves puddles) of me, my Mom, and my friend Suzanne.
Perfect that right next door to that stall was a dessert lady with her store called sugargrain, and most of her cakes and treats were gluten-free! Mom thoroughly enjoyed her marshmallow on a stick, while I chose a couple of raw cacao chocolates sweetened with agave. Look how cute it is! It is dusted with edible silver!
I couldn’t say no to something described as a “healthy chocolate”.
The next slow food weekend happens right before Christmas, so I highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area.
OK, next post will be muy especial from the shores of Espana, so look out for that tomorrow!
