make this immediatelyPosted: March 11, 2010
i love the food blogging community for a lot of reasons, but mainly for the GREAT recipes that these geniuses come up with. some of them are pretty weird, some of them sound downright disgusting, but then there are the select few that make you smack your head and say “why didn’t i think of that??!!”
thanks to gena from choosing raw for coming up with this one – it is ridiculous how simple and amazing this recipe is. and all it takes is some forethought. do you have a couple of bananas that are getting to the overly brown point? ordinarily, i’d say you’d better make some banana bread PRONTO! but this time, i’m going to tell you to peel and chop up those soft bananas, put the pieces in a ziplock bag, and stick them in your freezer. i did this months ago and forgot all about them. until the other night, when i remembered gena’s post about banana soft-serve.
(british people, an explanation: soft-serve is the really artificial-tasting ice cream you get where it comes out of a machine – sort of like frozen yogurt – and is a staple in any university cafeteria)
i asked phil to taste it and guess how i made it – he obviously guessed the bananas, but then thought i also added yogurt and rice milk and used the ice cream maker and added a dash of agave nectar and……
it is so much fun – try this on friends – and then look at their shocked faces when you say “NOPE! JUST BANANAS!” (hopefully not in a psychotic way)
so, referring back to the title of this post, make this immediately.
banana ice cream
from choosing raw
- 2 frozen bananas, already cut into chunks
- allow the frozen bananas to thaw and soften slightly, then put in your food processor and turn it on. overall, this will take about 5 minutes to get the desired smooth consistency, but you may need to turn it off every once in a while to scrape the sides and make sure all the frozen bits have broken down.
lesson learned: shortest list of ingredients ever.
