HAWMC: PinboardPosted: April 16, 2012
For the month of April, I’m participating in the Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge from Wego Health. Each day I’ll be writing a health-related post based on the HAWMC prompts, aiming to challenge myself as a writer and health activist. Thanks for following!
I’m in love with Pinterest. The visual aspect appeals to me and I love discovering new recipes this way. After all, digestion begins with our eyes, so if something looks tasty, chances are we’ll enjoy it more because our digestive enzymes will have already started to kick in. So, when I was asked to create a pinboard centred around my health focus for today’s blog post, I was beyond excited! My new pinboard, Be Healthy Be Happy, focuses on healthy eating practices designed to make your life easier (and therefore, make you happier). Here are three of my recent pins:
This post is from one of my favorite health blogs, Healthful Pursuit, and gives an easy step-by-step explanation of how to cook artichokes. I’m eager to try this as I’ve never cooked an artichoke before – I always buy marinated artichoke hearts from the olive guy at my weekly farmer’s market, a pretty expensive habit. They seem a daunting vegetable to prepare, but Leanne makes it look easy!
Along the same lines as the artichokes, I’m completely bewildered by coconuts. I love them and use their byproducts daily (coconut oil especially), but have never actually taken it upon myself to open up a coconut and use the flesh. This post from Rawmazing teaches us how to take a mature coconut (found at most supermarkets these days) and create your own coconut flour and milk. Awesome!
Polly Noble is an inspiring woman who writes her own fantastic blog on health and raw food. This post, which lists 20 plant varieties designed to remove common home air pollutants, is informative and useful. I plan on incorporating lots of these plants into our home once we move and have a super green living space!
