  • Bragg’s Liquid Aminos – An alternative to soy sauce or tamari for anyone who has trouble digesting those products (though it is derived from non-GMO soybeans, so not safe for those with soy allergies). Contains all the essential and non-essential amino acids, thus a complete protein.
  • Brown rice noodles – Great with a stir-fry. Opt for brown rice over white (not just in noodle form!) for the added fiber and minerals.
  • Cacao nibs – Very dark and bitter bits of raw cacao. Wonderful when added to warm grains in the morning (like quinoa or millet), in raw desserts, baked into vegan cakes and cookies, etc etc etc!
  • Carob powder – Powdered form of the carob fruit which resembles a chocolate taste when used in raw smoothies or puddings. Plus it has a great nutritional profile – a wonderful source of calcium.
  • Coconut oil – So many uses, so little time! Look for organic extra virgin oil, and make sure it has been cold pressed. I like to use it in stir frys, in baking (once melted), and as a skin moisturizer.
  • Coconut sugar – Also known as palm sugar, these sugar crystals are low GI and contain a good variety of vitamins and minerals.
  • Himalayan Crystal salt – Beautiful pink salt with minerals and trace elements you just don’t get from standard table salt.
  • Raw Cacao powder – Great for making raw chocolate and in smoothies, this is your favorite dark chocolate stripped down to its bare essential. Plus, raw cacao is rich in antioxidants.
  • Spelt flour – An ancient grain from Roman times. Wholegrain is best, as it isn’t as processed as the white stuff. Spelt is wheat-free but NOT gluten-free, and can be used as an alternative to plain or whole wheat flour.
  • Spelt pasta – Again, go for wholegrain varieties rather than white for the nutritional impact and fiber content.
  • Unsweetened almond milk – This is available packaged when you can’t make some at home. Like everything else, the fewer ingredients, the better.
  • Vanilla powder – Ground up vanilla pods. It provides that intense vanilla flavor without the added ingredients you find in vanilla essence or extract.
